A 1998 Mitsubishi Lancer MR was chosen for the Hydroplaz Experiment in Australia because it appeared to have the desired traits for a successful installation... 4 cylinders with a simple oxygen sensor. It was road tested and found to run 16.67 kilometers per liter of fuel on a 100 kilometer round trip run between Cairns and Babinda.
Several runs were made between Cairns and Port Douglas and 40 liters of fuel would last an average of 560 kilometers.

The HAFC installation is complete with an Electronic Fuel Injection Enhancer from Eagle Research in place of the Optimizer that comes with the kit. The EFIE seems to be more user friendly than the Optimizer so that will be tried first. The initial setting was 350 mv. The first run was spectacular... over 49 kilometers per liter (119 mpg)... almost 3X the highway run! On the second run, the car's computer kicked in and there was only a 7% increase.

The car's computer is reset and the EFIE is set at 400 mv. On an 75 kilometer run from Cairns to Port Douglas, Hydrolance did an impressive 48 kilometers per liter (115 mpg). However, on the return run of 81 kilometers, the car's computer kicked in a bit and she only did 40 kilometers per liter.

The computer is reset and the EFIE is increased to 450 mv. The goal now is to see how far Hydrolance can go on one tank of fuel.
Off to a good start, the fuel guage barely moved for the 100 kilometers, but then began to lose the gains within a quarter of a tank.

After tuning the EFIE forward and back several times, it was discovered that the car's computer "learns" the various settings after awhile, but as the millivolts are increased, the initial runs are rising slowly as the EFIE is increased in 25 mv increments. The runs between Port Douglas to Cairns have been increasing from 25% to 50% to over 100%! Now just have to find the magic numbers. Guess it is time to try the Optimizer 3X.
